The Titanic's construction began on March 31, 1909. Her maiden voyage began one minute before noon on April 10, 1912. This means that, not counting stocking, transport, and testing, it took around 3 years to build what was at the time, the largest and most luxurious ship ever built.
15,000 men were employed at the shipyards at Belfast, the birthplace of the Titanic. 4,000 of those men were directly tasked with the ship's construction. In 1,105 days, 254 accidents were recorded, and 8 men lost their lives.
To construct the ship cost £1,500,000. A single, one-way, first class ticket on Her maiden voyage cost $800, equivalent to $70,000 today. The cheapest third-class ticket cost $36, equivalent to 2 weeks salary for an unskilled worker. A skilled worker, such as those that worked on the Titanic, could afford the ticked in about one week.
